Refugee Support
The Refugee Support Committee supports refugees resettled in Santa Clara County. Its first project was to provide support to refugees from Afghanistan who have been resettled in Santa Clara County since August 2021, following the US withdrawal from Afghanistan. The Refugee Support Committee, working with a partner organization, Asian-Americans for Community Involvement (AACI), provided basic household supplies to about 20 refugee families. Currently, committee members are providing youth mentoring support through the International Refugee Committee and ESL training through the San Jose Public Library. We are exploring the possibility of establishing one or more Welcome Circles to assist refugees being resettled in San Jose, in collaboration with Jewish Family Services. The committee meets on the 4th Wednesday at each month from 11:00AM to 11:45AM at the Summit Center.
